Federal lawmaker sponsors bill to amend Federal University of Petroleum Resources act

A bill for an act to amend the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (establishment) Act, 2017 has passed through second reading in the House of Representatives.

 

The bill was sponsored by Hon. Efe Anthony Afe representing Sapele, Okpe, Uvwei Federal Constituency in the House .

 

The bill seeks to domicile the Federal University of Petroleum,Effurun in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources as against Ministry of Education as contained in the principle Act.

 

Leading the debate on the amendment, Hon Afe said the proposed amendment when passed into law will help the University focus on it core mandate of providing solutions to the oil and gas industry.

 

Hon. Efe Afe, said the benefit of the amendment bill amongst others is that, it will afford the University the privilege of attracting superlative man power and expariates to build internal capacity, make Commerce the exchange and collaborative programmes where experienced hands in the petroleum industry will take up practical courses as students are sent at intervals to the field for first hand practical exercise. The bill will also enhance the funding of the university through the Petroleum Trust Development Fund, PTDF, and other agencies that have direct bearing with oil and gas industry as envisioned in the principal act

 The bill was referred to the House Committee on Tertiary Education for further legislative input.
