No Itsekiri Ex-agitator has undergone vocational training since 2009, Forum alleges

The Itsekiri Ex-Agitators Forum has insisted that Itsekiris have continually suffered neglect in the Presidential Amnesty Programme, alleging that Itsekiri Ex-agitators in the vocational training category, have not been deployed from 2009 till date.

In a statement authored on behalf of the Itsekiri Ex-Agitators Forum, Com. Wilson Keneku, Secretary as well as John Okotie, Media and Publicity, reiterated the call for an Itsekiri person to be appointed the next Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, so as to correct the perceived marginalization of the Itsekiri ethnic nationality.

While stating that attempts to draw the attention of previous managements of the programme as regards alleged marginalization of Itsekiris fell on deaf ears, the Itsekiri Ex-Agitators emphasized: “This call have become necessary as a result of the fact that the Itsekiri ethnic nationality as a critical stakeholder in the Niger Delta and in the Presidential Amnesty Project, has been sidelined in terms of appointment in any of the office even in employment, there is no single Itsekiri in the office.”

They stressed: “We the Itsekiri Ex-agitators Forum are in full support of the review and verification of the Presidential Amnesty Programme by the Caretaker Committee. However, we also want to call for the enlargement of the committee to include the Itsekiri ethnic nationality.

“We also want to call for the Establishment of board for the Presidential Amnesty Programme, comprising of Representatives with either Coordinator or Chairman as the head, which will be appointed by the President, this will go a long way in ensuring accountability, transparency and inclusiveness in the programme”, adding, “any attempt to end the programme abruptly, will be severely resisted.”
