Delta NUJ appoints Caretaker Committee as tenure of Ikeogwu led exco expires

A Caretaker Committee led by Comrade Gilbert Olie, has been appointed to administer the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, following the expiration of the tenure of Comrade Michael Ikeogwu led State Working Committee, SWC.

 

                                                      

 

Fresh Angle International understands that a notice of expiration/ dissolution of the Ikeogwu-led executive was dispatched to the National Secretariat, yesterday June 1.

 

                       

 

According to a statement signed by the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Comrade Gilbert Olie and Caretaker Committee Secretary, Comrade Dominic Adewole, the dissolution of Ikeogwu-led executive, was; "After due and wide consultations among Chapel Chairmen and Secretaries of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), prior to the expiration of the Comrade Michael Ikeogwu State Working Committee”.

 

 

 

The statement added inter-alia: “In furtherance to this, a meeting was engaged and Comrade Gilbert Olie (Chairman, DBS Asaba, Chapel) and Comrade Dominic Adewole (Secretary, Asaba Correspondents Chapel) were nominated Chairman and Secretary of the Chairmen and Secretaries Caretaker Committee of NUJ Delta State Council.

 

 

 

“Other members are Comrade Emmanuel Ekebe (Chairman, Isoko Chapel), Comrade Florence Nwabuonwu (Acting Chairman, State Information Chapel), Comrade Andy Emephia (Chairman, Indigenous Correspondents Chapel), Comrade Ambrose Ologide (Acting Chairman, Field Information Chapel) and Comrade Godwin Oghre (Chairman, Sapele Chapel).

 

 

 

“The Caretaker Committee by this statement, implore the outgone state executive of the NUJ Delta State Council to hand over keys of the temporal Council Secretariat and all Union properties in their possession to the Committee. 

 

 

 

“By this statement also, the Delta State Council Election 2020 Credentials Committee is hereby directed to meet with the Caretaker Committee on Thursday, June 4, at Delta NUJ Secretariat, Asaba at 12noon.

 

 

 

“We therefore wish to restate our resolve to oversee the conduct a free, fair, credible election to midwife a generally accepted and credible leadership for the NUJ Delta State Council.

 

 

 

“With sincere assurances, we urge our esteemed members to be calm, patient and law abiding as we steer the ship of our noble Union in Delta State clear from imminent crisis”.
