Following the recent passage of the Nigeria Peace Corps Bill into law by the National Assembly, and the reassurance that there will be employment for about 800,000 Nigerian youths, Bayelsa State Commander of Peace Corps, Patriot Nelson Gbaseimokumo Efeke, has advised Bayelsans to key into the employment programme.
Our Bayelsa State Correspondent reports that Patriot Efeke gave the advice during a gratitude match held in the Streets of Yenagoa, in honour of the National Assembly’s passage of the bill and for their National Commander, Dr. Ambassador A.O. Agbo.
The State Commander said the functions of the agency which was encapsulated in the bill is focused on curbing corruption in the nearest future by injecting into students of higher institutions good morals as well as supplementing the existing security agencies in nation buildingso as to achieve their aims and objectives for a better society.
He noted that when the 800,000 youths are engaged across the country, it will reduce youth restiveness, kidnapping and other social vices in the society, just as he called on the government and civil society groups to boost the intake of Bayelsan youths in the employment, saying it remains the lowest in membership when compared to other States of the federation.
Meanwhile, a cross section of Yenagoa residents have commended the National Assembly for the speedy passage of the bill. They urged the Bayelsa State Government to make use of the opportunity and engage youths of Bayelsa for the sustainability of the existing peace in the State.
