Your approach may worsen N/Delta crisis , INYC warns FG
President Muhammadu Buhari

The President of the Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC, Comrade Esimaje Awani has warned that if care is not taken the approach of the Federal Government to the resolution of the Niger-Delta crisis will worsen rather than ameliorate it.

In a Press Statement made available to Fresh Angle International Thursday November 8, the INYC President said: “I can say authoritatively that some of the proposals currently on the table do not constitute sustainable solution in a civilized society but only amount to negotiation of the very values upon which civilized societies rest. Unfortunately, it is these proposals that have been placed in the front burner of issues obviously because they are intended to achieve ignoble aims including amongst others to illegally claim the territories belonging to other ethnic groups making it appear therefore that there is only one ethnic group in the Niger Delta region. I call on the Federal Government to either be a government or accept that Nigeria is a failed state; in which case, people should be allowed to take laws into their hands, carry guns and blow up pipelines and have their demands met even if they are against the laws of the land”

While referring to the yet to be “resolved issue of the naming of the proposed Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenghigho, which is a name declared for it by the Supreme Court”, Comrade Esimaje Awani argued: “the Nigerian Government should not be seen as acting against itself by succumbing to blackmail in the face of the judgment of the highest court of the land with respect to the naming of the site of the university. By the pronouncement of the Supreme Court on the issue, the place remains Okerenghigho and not Okerenkoko and if any group of people is interested in having a University in the area, I believe that will be the Itsekiris but why should the Executive Arm of Government act against the judicial arm? We want to beg the government not to reward lawlessness because the ability to disrupt the flow of oil pipelines is not the exclusive preserve of one tribe. Those who elect not to destroy oil facilities should never be taken for granted, I repeat; never be taken for granted!”

He advised the Government to weigh its options properly and act on the side of the law and established global practices rather than succumbing to blackmail as anything otherwise will be an invitation to anarchy which according to him; “several other tribes within the region will gladly honour. The people of the region want a University to enable them be trained in learning and character both of which must be founded on lawfulness as learning and character without recourse to the rule of law is certainly an aberration” .

He said that his people have made several presentations and submitted the relevant court judgments to the National Assembly and the Executive arm of Government and according to him: “ It would only be responsible for the Government to consider all these before taking any action especially with regards to the naming of the university; bearing in mind that this could result in the opening of the floodgate to the adoption of the rule of force as opposed to the rule of law which development does not in any way reflect the philosophy behind the establishment of a university in the area. How can people ask for a University and at the same time ask to be lawless? I call on Itsekiri Youths Worldwide to remain peaceful but eternally vigilant”.

Comrade Esimaje Awani who described his Council as one not subject to the whims and caprices of politicians, has warned the Politicians especially those of Itsekiri ethnic extraction not to use the land which their forefathers founded as negotiation tools for re-election.

“Omadino land is not, I repeat not available as a tool for negotiation” he concluded.
