Lingard saves Mourinho's blushes as Chelsea moves to within a point of Man United

But for Jesse Lingard's second half equalizer which drew Manchester United level to Burnley (2:2) The Red Devils would have suffered a humiliating defeat at Old Trafford in today's Boxing Day fixture watched by united former gaffer, Sir Alex Ferguson and other Red Devils' legends.

Burnley which defeated defending champion, Chelsea in one of the 2017/2018 EPL openers, went two goals up in the first half, thus increasing Mourinho's pressure before the multi million pounds assembled Manchester United fought back to draw level in an uninspiring display despite featuring Zlatan Ibrahimovich, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku in the kick off.

United had laboured to the same 2:2 draw with Leicester City Saturday, thus making Manchester City to extend their lead at the EPL log before today's below-par display.

Recent showings of United had led to delay in fresh contract talks with Mourinho as the club's fans have continually expressed disappointment in the lack of entertainment shown by the Mourinho tutored side compared to their high flying city rival, Manchester City.

Third place Chelsea moved within a point of United after a convincing 2:0 victory against their opponent, Brighton.

Today's Boxing Day fixtures began with an entertaining victory of Tottenham Hotspur over Southampton. The game ended 5:2 with Harry Kane smashing the premiership goal scoring record.
