The leadership of Delta Ijaw Grassroots Political Movement, DIGPM has stated that the emergence of former Vice- President, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku as President of Nigeria would guarantee peace and unity because of his support for restructuring, power devolution and true Federalism.
The DIGPM in a statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. Oliver Mala Isaac and Secretary, Mr. Ebikeme Banre, noted that the decision by Atiku to return to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and to aspire for the office of the Presidency at this point in time was not only apt, but his decision is the best thing to happen in the history of Nigeria.
“Your decision to come back to the PDP and to also aspire for the office of the Presidency come 2019 is the right decision, laudable and a welcome development in the history of Nigeria”, adding that the decision is not borne out of selfishness.
While stating that Atiku’s political sagacity coupled with the concrete efforts of other well-meaning PDP stakeholders was significant in producing Prince Uche Secondus as the generally accepted party leader, they asserted that the DIGPM is optimistic that with the PDP crisis behind them, working together in unity, victory for the PDP is quite certain come 2019.
They therefore charged the PDP Governors Forum and other leaders to avoid actions capable of bringing setback to the party, even as they task them on creating a peaceful environment for a credible party primaries.
