My wife, family have abandoned me- Boat mishap survivor cries out

A 32-year old man, Mr. Okpuden Obas has narrated how his wife ran away with his two kids for the past one year, saying his extended family members have equally abandoned him due to the bone fracture he suffered on his waist in a boat mishap that occurred March 24, 2017 along the Escravos Creek in Warri South- West Local Government Area, Delta State.

Fresh Angle International can report that Mr. Obas is one of five survivors of a head-on collision of two boats which claimed nine lives.

According to him, the passenger boat he boarded at Pessu Market headed for Madangho with nine passengers when it collided with a private boat which carried three persons.

Obas, a trader in clothes was going to Madangho and its surrounding communities to sell his wares when the unfortunate incident occurred at the Escravos Creek.

Mr. Obas who was in tears while narrating his ordeal to Our Senior Correspondent, said he didn’t know how God saved his life.

He was in coma for two weeks and spent seven months at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, where the Consultant Orthopedic told him he has bone fracture (Femoral) and needs replacement through further treatment in India.

According to him, the Doctors advised he go for femoral head replacement surgery, which will cost him four million naira (N4 million).

He is appealing for financial assistance from religious organizations, Federal and State Government agencies, International donor agencies and other non- governmental organizations to enable him head up to India for the surgery.
