Indigenes of Ugborodo Community in Warri South-West Local Government Area in Delta State, have insisted that they are “part and parcel of Warri Kingdom under the over-lordship of the Olu of Warri”, describing their run-away Olaja-Orori, Mr. Benson Dube Omadeli and the Youth President, Ofe Pender Nene as agents of “divisiveness and destruction”.

Recall that security agencies comprising of the DSS, Army, Navy and Police stormed the community weekend in search of Mr. Benson Omadeli, Ofe Nene and their cohorts, following their refusal to turn themselves up to the Police after they were declared wanted as a result of the gruesome murder of Samuel Mayomi on Tuesday August 22, 2017.

The security details who also hinged their invasion of the oil-rich Ugborodo on alleged criminal activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery as well as assault, reportedly met resistance from the suspects and the resultant effect of the cross-fire that ensued was the death of at-least two persons.

Fallout of the operation include the pulling down of a self-styled palace being constructed by Mr. Benson Omadeli, who controversially declared himself a king in Ugborodo with the support of Ofe Nene and some of their external friends.

Chairman of Ugborodo Community Management Committee, Austin Oboroegbeyi, Esq. who addressed a press conference Wednesday February 14 on behalf of Ugborodo people at the Community hall in Ode-Ugborodo in the presence of joyous indigenes of the Chevron-host community, alleged that Omadeli and Nene “used all means to disallow entry into this community of members of the committee, elders and people of the community, assaulted and sent out those they perceived not to share in their criminal activities of illegal bunkering, pipeline vandalism etc”.

According to them, their vigorous and consistent cries “led to the intervention and recent liberation of Ugborodo Community from the draconian grip of pipeline vandals, illegal oil bunkers etc”.

While noting that in the next few days, members of Ugborodo Community Management Committee intends to meet with representatives of Multi-National and contracting companies operating in Ugborodo on the way forward for development, including the multi-million dollar GRIP, Oboroegbeyi posited that those who recently fled the community “are free to return as long as they are prepared to abide by the rule of law”.

The Ologbotsere of Warri, Chief Ayirimi Emami, Chief Thomas Ereyitomi, Chief Mike Odeli, Chief Edwin Olley, Chief Mercy Olowu, the Eghare-Aja of Ugborodo, Pa. Wellington Ojogor, the various Olare-Ajas of the communities that make up Ugborodo as well as other women and youth leaders of Ugborodo graced the enlarged meeting, symbolizing the return of peace in the hitherto troubled community.
