Agbami Co Ventures in conjunction with Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative, WRAPA as well as Delta State Government, have intensified campaign against the spread of Tuberculosis in Warri South, Warri North and Ethiope East Local Government Areas of Delta State.
Delta State Tuberculosis and Leprosy Coordinator, Dr. Alex Akpodiete had raised serious concern December 2018, during a Tuberculosis Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization Flag-Off Programme held at Warri South Council Main Secretariat in Warri, that about 12,000 cases of Tuberculosis are likely to occur annually in Delta State alone, with a possibility of two out of every six-member household in Nigeria having the infection.
Coordinator of WRAPA, Mrs. Edna Ohunayo explained during the campaign exercise in the three local government areas that “the project which started in October 2018, is to educate and sensitize the general public on prevention, care and control of Tuberculosis”.
According to her, the campaign also entails training of care providers, peer educators and community vanguards, advocacy visits to major shareholders as well as community outreach programmes and rallies in the three selected local government areas.
The Agbami Co Ventures in collaboration with its partners have equally embarked on extensive advocacy campaigns on local radio stations to effectively touch all nooks and crannies in the select – council areas.
