OPEN LETTER TO THE GENERAL MANAGER, POLICY, GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS, CHEVRON NIGERIA LIMITED, MR. ESIMAJE BRIKKIN

Dear Sir

YOUR CLAIM ABOUT UGBORODO DEVELOPMENT BY CHEVRON IS UNFOUNDED

You claimed that Chevron has been providing water and electricity to the Ugborodo Community, River Boat Clinic, provides free medical services to Ugborodo Community. That Chevron has continued to support socio-economic development in Ugborodo Communities through local community contracts, employment and scholarships and 100 secondary and tertiary scholarships are awarded to beneficiaries from Ugborodo Community Annually.

You claimed also that Chevron have a reasonable number of Ugborodo Community workers and contractors who have benefitted and have continued to benefit from the available employment and contract opportunities in the company.

Finally, you claimed CNL’s contractors from Ugborodo Community have provided and continue to provide employment for qualified persons from the community. That CNL has continued to engage their host communities and work within available resources to equitably contribute to social development of communities near our areas of your operations.

But you failed to inform the world that the few contracts you gave to Ugborodo Indigenes were given to your relatives and the one or two that wasn't given to your relatives, were done in slavery, without workers welfare being well encapsulated.

You also failed to tell the world that it's Chevron Staff that fill all the personnel in contracts given to community contractors with their none tribes/ relatives, thereby creating heavy unemployment in Ugborodo and by extension great poverty in the land.

You didn't remember to tell the world that the alleged Mobile Boat Floating Clinic doesn't carry any medical equipment or drug other than Paracetamol, methylated spirits and cotton wool. Making it not better than a first aid box.

You also failed to inform the world that this Mobile Boat Floating First Aid box takes week to get to Ugborodo, where it may be for less than a day.

You failed to inform the world that your water and electricity provision to Ugborodo is epileptic, which consummate into provision of clean water for only 2 hours daily and constant power blackout as a result of the faulty generator used to power the community.

You failed to tell the world that in Ugborodo today, there are still epidemic of Cholera happening once in a while as a result of inefficient supply of clean water.

Please tell the world what happened to the 2002 MoU signed between Chevron, Ugborodo Community and Delta State Government. Show us anything you have done for Ugborodo as agreed in that MoU. You forgot to tell the world how you ensured the MoU was killed to under-develop Ugborodo Community.

Please tell the world why Ugborodo Community workers’ salaries haven't been increased for over 2 years, since we had agreement that their salaries will be increased after every two years. Also don't forget to tell them why you guys haven't built the Multi- Purpose Centres in all the communities that make up Ugborodo.

Please don't forget to inform the world how Chevron Staff have hijacked the employment slots meant for Ugborodo people, to fill the community contractors’ contracts and filled them all with their relatives.

Please publish the name(s) of any Ugborodo Indigene(s) Chevron have employed as staff of your company within the last 3 years, as well as show the world the number of Ugborodo Indigenes that have been employed within the last 3years by local contractors, by publishing their names to shame me if indeed I am not saying the truth.

Mr. Esimaje, Please tell the world one real developmental project that Chevron have completed in Ugborodo and any one that is at advance stage.

Please also inform the world how under-developed the community is, to the extent that most of the children in some parts of Ugborodo Community today have never seen a tarred road or a television set, because your Chevron co-workers have hijacked all employment slots meant for their parents.

Please note that if Chevron doesn't  yield and address all the demands of Ugborodo Community, we shall continue to protest in demand for our right in Chevron Facilities in our Community, hence I will advise Chevron Nigeria Limited to immediately yield to all the demands of our people, to avert continuity of the ongoing protest.

Thanks.
