NNPC Recruitment: We will consider host communities, WRPC assures

Managing Director of WRPC, Engr. Muhammad Abali and other management staff of NNPC, have assured protesting Delta host communities’ youths that NNPC will consider them in the ongoing recruitment exercise, Fresh Angle International can report.

On reported plan to relocate Nigerian Gas Marketing Company, NGMC from Warri to Abuja, the Executive Director, Assets Management, NGMC, Engr. Faruk, dismissed the speculations, insisting there is no plan to relocate the company’s operational headquarters from Warri.

The assurance is sequel to a communique released after a peace meeting held Tuesday May 7, between the management of Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company, WRPC on one part and Delta State Ethnic Nationalities’ Youth Leaders Forum as well as Community Relations’ Committee, CRC of host communities on the other part.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that other key issues in the communique include the need for NNPC and its subsidiaries to live up to its corporate social responsibility to the host communities and engagement of indigenous contractors in the execution of major contracts, in-line with the Local Content Law.

The new direction between the WRPC Management and the leadership of host communities’ youths, was reached following a well-coordinated protest staged by the youths.

Addressing newsmen during the peaceful protest at WRPC Gate, President of Itsekiri National Youths Council, INYC, Comrade Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, disclosed that they wrote several letters about their demands to NNPC without positive response, hence the massive protest against NNPC in Warri, adding, “we hope NNPC won't allow it to degenerate to violence”.

Comrade Agbateyiniro warned, “if NNPC cannot handle the issues presented amicably, we will direct our critical organs across ethnic groups in Delta State, to go to all NNPC critical oil facilities to shutdown flow lines".

Others who spoke during the peace meeting included Chairman of Aja-Etan Community, Mr. Billy Ekele, Chairman of Ijala-Ikenren CRC, Prince Adolphus, Chairman of Ubeji Community, Engr. Clement Erewa, Ifie Community Representative, Mr. Austin Leleji, Chairman of Ekpan CDC, Barr. Innocent, Mr. Friday Enifoma, President of Urhobo Youth, UPU wing, Comrade Anidi, Chairman of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Chief Frank Akiefa and Isoko Youth President, Ovie Umuakpo.
