Ugborodo Vs Chevron: We may take the protests to another dimension, OWFA warns

Members of Omadino Welders and Filters Association, OWFA in Warri South Local Government Area, have threatened to" take the ongoing protests against Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, by indigenes of Ugborodo Community in Warri South -West Local Government Area to another dimension, if by weekend, their demands, which is inline with that of Ugborodo are not met.

Chairman of OWFA, Comrade Kennedy Ugbameta who handed down the warning in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International, Tuesday May 14, declared," we have suffered decades of marginalization by the International Oil Companies, IOCs like Chevron Nigeria Limited. They employ welders and filters from other places, whereas we have qualified persons from our oil-rich community who are not employed".

According to Comrade Ugbameta," there are no basic infrastructures and other forms of corporate social responsibility to show for years of oil exploration in Omadino", adding that efforts to make Chevron and other corporate bodies operating in Omadino land to redress the perceived marginalization, have been rebuffed.

While calling for implementation of the Local Content Act by the IOCs, the OWFA Chairman commended the Traditional Prime Minister of Warri Kingdom, Chief Ayirimi Emami, Chairman of Ugborodo Management Committee, Barr. Austin Oboerogbeyi, the leadership of Itsekiri National Youths Council, INYC, National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG and other Itsekiri bodies" for the united and dogged peaceful protests so far" against Chevron.
