Property and business owners as well as residents of  Ekurede-Itsekiri, Warri in Warri South Local Government Area, are daily counting their losses as the rampaging flood, which started some years back, has literally submerged residential buildings and shops as the rains continue to fall almost on daily basis.

Some of those affected by the flood, including a fashion designer, Gbubemi Emma, Mr. Wisdom Ugbede, who sells drinks and Pastor Shola Imani, disclosed that the flood has been persistent for the past five years without any solution, describing the situation as worrisome.

While stating that the flood has adversely affected socio-economic activities in the area, they blamed the situation on the construction of St. Paul Catholic Church in the area, vis-à-vis what they described as “wrong engineering construction of the drainage along the Ekurede-Itsekiri Road”.

Our Senior Correspondent who went round the area Monday July 15, reports that the flood has so far submerged landmass, measuring up to 500meters, from Ejegware/Anomogharan Compound, through the back of the Catholic Church, late Chief Ojo-Ede’s compound to the resident of late Madam Grace and a major part of the popular Ekurede-Itsekiri Road, leading to Olu Palace, Warri.

The rampaging flood has resulted in gridlock in the area and forcing motorists and cyclists to ply the narrow Ugbori access Road to Olu Palace.

The victims appealed to the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, to come to their aid by constructing proper drainage channels so as to tackle the flood challenge.
