The harrowing experience Nigerians go through daily, both in the day and night is one everybody wishes to forget in a hurry, no matter the ethnic, religious or geopolitical divide.
The prediction by NIMET that lesser rains will be experienced in 2016 with increased heat during the day and warmer nights is deeply worrisome to say the least, considering the near zero electricity supply and the astronomical increase in the price of premium motor spirit, otherwise known as fuel.
Why little or nothing can be done to address the increasing daily heat, a lot can be done by the Federal Government to immediately crack down on vandals of electricity, crude and gas lines.
The shady and controversial sale of major stake in electricity generation and distribution by the last Federal administration without doing anything about transmission is one major area the President Muhammadu Buhari administration must take decisive action urgently to restore reasonable electricity supply to homes and offices of millions of Nigerians. Because this is one sure way the administration can save Nigerians from the daily horror they undergo in the fight against increased heat with its attendant health challenges.
Apart from the fact that better stability of power will serve as impetus for stimulating socio-economic activities, Nigerians will have some succor from the scotching heat if their air conditioners and electric fans are powered, thus reducing the noise as well as air pollution generators add to the already hot and frustrating weather condition.
Rather than pressuring the Honourable Minister of State For Petroleum Resources, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe. Kachikwu to double-speak or worst-still give promises that are not realistic, the Federal Government and indeed key stakeholders in the oil as well as gas sector should immediately work out a permanent solution to fuel crisis, which has bedeviled the country for many years despite being blessed with large deposits of oil and gas.
To say the least, the fuel crisis is having a negative toll on the economic lives of Nigerians and by implication putting the President Muhammadu Buhari administration in bad light before majority of Nigerians.
The administration must act fast on the fuel crisis amid the seeming executive and legislative face-off, so as to enable Nigerians power their generators and cars with lesser stress, as they grapple daily with the reality of increasing heat.
