Parading the three suspects, the State Commandant of NSCDC, Everestus Obiyo stated that as part of the Command’s responsibilities in the protection of critical infrastructure and national assets, the three suspects were arrested in connection to criminal conspiracy, vandalism of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company armoured cable and receiving of stolen property.

According to the Commandant, the suspects were caught during operation at Idah Local Government of the state.

NSCDC also raised alarm on the activities of scavengers in the state, noting that some suspected hoodlums hide under the guise of scavenging to vandalised government properties.

To check the excesses of these set of criminal elements, Obiyo said he has deployed special force across the 21 local governments of the state to ensure the protection of government and private properties in the state.

Hamza Salifu, one of the suspects from Idah said he was arrested with cables as he stole it from a company called Hippo in Ogbogbo in Idah Local Government Eastern flank of the Confluence State.

Salifu claimed that he came down from Enugu where he was into a petty trade (selling Gala) on the streets of the Coal City (Enugu) before he followed his friend, an Hausa man who introduced him into the illegal business.

The suspect added that he joined vandalising business four months ago, lamenting that no one was willing to help him since he lost his parents.

According to Salifu, his accomplice who is currently on the run took to his heels upon hearing of his arrest.
