Recession: Niger Delta youth leaders task FG on 500, 000 job projects

Youth leaders in the Niger Delta under the aegis of Niger Delta Ethnic Nationality Youth Leaders, have called on the federal government to as a matter of urgency embark on the construction of Gas Revolution Industrial Park, GRIP Project, Ogidigben Delta State, Export Processing Zone, Cross Rivers State, Brass Fertilizer Project in Bayelsa State, the Nigerian Maritime University, NMU in Warri South-West Local Government Area in Delta State, reactivation of Calabar, Warri and Port Harcourt Sea Ports as well as the construction of Lagos- Calabar Rail line amongst others, saying the projects are capable of generating over 500, 000 job opportunities for youths in the region.

The youth leaders made the demand in a communiqué issued in Warri, Delta State Friday October 21 after an extensive close door meeting.

The communiqué which was read by the President of Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC, Comrade Esimaje Awani also tasked the federal government to complete the East-West Road, Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Road as well as the inclusion of all ethnic National youth leaders in the proposed dialogue to permanently end bombing and vandalism of critical national crude oil and gas pipelines “because we are most vulnerable.”

They called on all agitating groups to sheath their swords and give peace a chance, even as they appealed to the federal government to release the detained leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu as well as Shite leader, El zakzaky.

The communiqué signed by President of Ijaw Youth Coumcil, Comrade Udengs Eradiri, President of Isoko Youth Council, Comrade Victor Egbo, President of Ikwerre Youth Council, Comrade Edward Odum, President of Itsekiri National Youth Council, Comrade Esimaje Awani, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, Comrade Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, President of Ibibio Youth Council, Comrade Imoh Stephen Okiko, President of Kalabari Youth Foundation, Engr. Damigie Pharry and President of Efik Youth Council, Capt. Bassey Henshaw among others, called for the political inclusion of youths in government.

Speaking earlier, President of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Comrade Udengs Eradiri posited that the Amnesty Programme, NDDC and other key interventionist agencies in the Niger Delta are under-funded, just as he tasked the federal government to be more decisive in the implementation of its programmes and policies in a bid to tackle the present economic realities.

Our Correspondent reports that Youth Presidents from about 25 ethnic Nationalities cutting across Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Imo and Abia States make up the Niger Delta Ethnic Nationality Youth Leaders’ Forum.
