The National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG has warned Agbassa Urhobo and other ethnic groups in the three Warri Local Government Areas of Warri South, Warri North and Warri South-West, whom they described as “customary tenants” that they “will henceforth fight to defend the land that we inherited from our forefathers since Delta State Government has failed in their responsibility”.

The warning by the Itsekiri Graduates’ body is sequel to an alleged attack on Ogedegbe/Daudu Communities in Warri Urban Tuesday October 25 by suspected youths from Agbassa Community also in Warri mainland over insistence to collect “development levy” in Ogedegbe, an Itsekiri community.

The attack reportedly led to the shooting of four Itsekiri people, while one other was purportedly sliced with cutlass, before soldiers were deployed to stop the crisis from degenerating.

NAIG in a swift reaction via a statement made available to Fresh Angle International Wednesday October 26, declared, “this is the last time such will occur to any Itsekiri son or daughter in any part of Warri Kingdom in the three Warri Local Government Areas”.

The statement signed by NAIG President, Comrade Oritsetimeyin Collins Edema, stressed, “we wish to also inform the general public that Agbassa Urhobos and other Urhobos in Warri are customary tenants of the Itsekiri people under the over-lordship of the Olu of Warri and no amount of intimidation or threats can change that”.

The statement added, “no inch or any part of Warri Kingdom will be allowed to be annexed by any tribe or any group of people in this generation”.

The Itsekiri Graduates drew the attention of the Delta State Government, Director of DSS, the Army Command at Effurun Barrack, the Commander of NNS Delta and the Delta State Commissioner of Police, noting that they will work in collaboration with other relevant Itsekiri bodies “to henceforth protect Itsekiris within the three Warri Local Government Areas from further attack since they (referring to security agencies) failed us in their responsibility to do so”.
