Tension in DELSU as VC shut out over 200 PG students from exam
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victor Peretomode

There is palpable tension in Delta State University, Abraka following the shutting out of over 200 post graduate students from taking their first semester examination despite majority of them paying the mandatory school fees of N182,000.00, Fresh Angle International has gathered.

Our Correspondent reports that the affected students were shocked when they arrived the school premises on Saturday February 11 for the first paper of their first semester examination, only for the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victor Peretomode to stop them from entering examination hall on the grounds that they hadn't paid their school fees, let alone register their courses in the institution's portal www.delsuedu.com

It was gathered that only 21 MBA 1 students were granted access to the examination hall out of over 150,while only five were allowed to write their examination out of over 80 Masters' in Petroleum Economics' Post graduate students.

The scenario was the same in other departments and efforts to convince Prof. Peretomode that 50% of them denied access already paid their school fees, fell on deaf ears as the VC reportedly told the affected students to defer their admission till the next academic session billed to commence September 2017.

Some of the aggrieved students told Fresh Angle International in an exclusive chat that they were only informed Saturday February 4 that their first semester examination will commence Saturday February 11.

According to the students, the school portal: delsuedu.com, which is the medium through which they could get the necessary code to pay their fees and register their courses stopped functioning three days to the January 31 deadline given them to pay their fees, adding that prior to its final shutdown, the portal allegedly malfunctioned and proved difficult to do the needful.

It was gathered that efforts allegedly made by authorities in the State Ministry of Higher Education for Prof. Peretomode to critically look into cases of students who have proof of payment but frustrated by the institution's portal fell on brick wall.

While the aggrieved students appealed to Delta State Government and the relevant authorities to immediately prevail on the VC to listen to voice of reasoning, indications emerged that some of the affected students might seek legal redress if the VC stick to his hard stance.

Fresh Angle International checks revealed that even though the academic session allegedly commenced November 2016, no fewer than 50% of the post graduate students secured their admission January 2017.
