Fresh crisis looms in the All Progressives Congress, APC as the party’s candidate in the 2015 House of Assembly Election for Warri South Constituency 1, Barr. Robinson Ariyo has approached the Federal High Court, Warri Judicial Division, praying the Court to grant an Order to exclude Delta State from any arrangement towards conducting State Congress (es).
Barr. Ariyo who is also a Chieftain of the APC wants the Court to stop any election or appointment into government offices by whatever reasons, pending the determination of the substantive suit which is fixed for March 16, 2017.
The Legal Practitioner and human rights activist has warned the party leadership that extending the planned mini congress to Delta State will constitute disrespect for subsisting the court judgment and undermine the pending suit before the Federal High Court in suit No: FHC/WR/CS/7/2017 ROBINSON ARIYO VS. APC & 4ORS.
He has also reported the matter to the Nigerian Police as one which is capable of giving rise to breach of peace in Delta State, since opposing factions in the party could easily clash in the process.
He argued that mini congress cannot be applicable to the Delta State situation “since there is no legal State Executive Committee in the State”, just as he called on the National Chairman of the party to run the party in such a way that will convince party members and Nigerians generally that the APC is a party that is prepared to observe the rule of law and respect its own constitution.
According to Barrister Ariyo, the options open to the party is to set up a Caretaker Committee that is representative of the stakeholders of the party in the state or swiftly organise a congress to establish a valid State Executive Committee.
