DESOPADEC faces fresh EFCC inquest, legal action over accountability

Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC would soon come under fresh investigation by the Economic and Financial Crirmes Commission, EFCC and ICPC as well as face possible litigation if it fails to furnish one Prince David Odeli, a leader in Ebrohimi and Tisun Communities in Warri North Local Government Area with breakdown of its expenditures from 2015 till date.

In a petition addressed to the Managing Director of DESOPADEC by P.O. Awana & Associates on behalf of Prince David Odeli, the petitioner demanded that “copies of all documents evidencing the breakdown of all monies received and expended, any social/economic empowerment scheme embarked upon by the commission, projects executed and contractors who executed them”, be made available to him within 7 days from Tuesday February 21, 2017.

The petition which copied Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and the member representing Itsekiri ethnic Nationality in the Board of DESOPADEC, Chief Thomas Ereyitomi warned, “in the unlikely event that you fail, neglect and/or refuse to abide by the simple and modest tenor of this letter, we have the unflinching instruction of our client to seek remedies through legal means, which shall include but not limited to civil and criminal actions, including, involving regulatory agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other related offences Commission, ICPC”.

While alleging that Ebrohimi and Tisun Communities have been deliberately omitted by the commission in its annual expenditures and capital budget over the years, particularly the year 2016/2017, Prince Odeli noted that both communities which play host to Chevron Flow Stations are Oil bearing communities with no visible development project.
