Kogi Assembly crisis deepens, embattled lawmaker gets six months suspension

Barely 24 hours after the member representing Igalamela Odolu Constituency in Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Friday Sanni Makama filed a suit before a Kogi State High Court in Idah seeking a Restraining Order against the State legislature, the Minority Leader and the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the State House of Assembly has unanimously suspended him for six months on allegations of anti legislative activities.

Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that the suspension followed a motion of urgent public importance filed by Hon. Hassan Abdullahi Bello (APC Ajaokuta Constituency).

He explained that the embattled lawmaker have overreached himself and dragging the image of the House to disrepute.

Hon. Bello recalled that the activities of Hon. Makama were recently questioned and consequently an Adhoc Committee was set up to investigate him.

The motion was seconded by the member representing Ankpa 1 Constituency, Hon. Ahmed Mohammed.

Meanwhile, Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Umar Imam has been served a letter of summon by a Kogi State High Court in Idah, asking the Assembly to maintain status quo.

Also joined in the suit are: Governor Yahaya Bello, the State Attorney General, the House Minority Leader, Godwin Osuyi and the Kogi State Government.

The Speaker, Hon. Imam who read the letter of summon said the issue should not be discussed as it was in court.
