Pathetic: Man blames hardship for stabbing his wife to death
Abdullahi Garba

A suspect, Abdullahi Garba from Ihima in Okehi Local Government of Kogi State has blamed the current hardship in the State as reason for stabbing his wife to death, Fresh Angle International can report.

Abdullahi Garba was paraded alongside 12 suspects by the Kogi State Police Command in Lokoja on Wednesday, June 7 for alleged culpable homicide, armed robbery, kidnapping and illegal possession of fire arms.

Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that the sad story started when a heated argument ensued between Abdullahi Garba, a 30-year old from Ihima in Okehi Local Government and his wife, Falilat Saka Garba, who demanded for N2, 000 for the day's meal.

“When I came back from work that day, Falilat demanded for N2, 000. I told her that I only have N500, which is what we are using to feed at the moment. But she wasn't satisfied, and thereafter, argument broke out between us”, Abdullahi Garba narrated.

The suspect who claimed he had never had a taste of alcohol or under the influence of hard drugs, admitted to have stabbed the deceased, believing it was the handiwork of the devil.

Abdullahi claimed to have regretted his action, noting that this was the first time he would have physical quarrel with his wife.

With the unbearable hardship rocking the family, the suspect also recalled how the deceased once admonished him to engage in armed robbery for survival, which he declined.

“It got to a point, where my wife told me to engage in robbery which I refused.  She told me that my condition is not better than those stealing people's belonging.  I responded that, in my family we don't take things that are not actually ours", Gaba stated.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Yahaya Abubakar who paraded the suspects confirmed that it was a case of culpable homicide.

DCP Abubakah explained, “on the 30th of May 2017, detector from the homicide section of Okehi Police Division arrested Abdullahi Gaba after he admitted to have stabbed his deceased wife Falilat. He will be arraigned in court for prosecution, as soon as the result of the post-mortem examination is received".

Another suspect, Eshie Sule and two others were also nabbed with single and double barrel guns, barreta pistol, live cartridges, which Sule claimed to have inherited from his late father.

Another 16-year old, Jibril Idris who is an SS2 Student of Government Secondary School Itobe was part of the suspect arrested and cache of ammunition were displayed by the Police.

The link between the Police and the local vigilante according to the command has helped to calm the criminal activities in the state as all the suspects paraded will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
