Koko Explosion: We have settled with the property owner, family -Ebenco

The waste management company based in the historical Koko town, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, Ebenco Global Link Limited, whose Air Tank exploded Monday evening (July 17) due to equipment failure, says the issue has been resolved amicably with the owner and his family members.

Speaking to newsmen on the unfortunate incident, Managing Directo of the company, Mr. Ebenizar Oluwagbemiga explained that because of the cordial relationship existing between the company and its surrounding neighbours, the landlord has only requested that his property be renovated and whatever the company deems fit should be given as compensation.

Mr. Oluwagbenga said the company as part of its corporate social responsibility provides stable electricity, water and other basic amenities to residents around the industrial area, adding that people of the area and Koko indigenes have been very supportive of the company’s operation.

He said investigation into what led to the explosion is on-going with his engineers and external experts to forestall future occurrence, promising that they are committed to operating safely in Koko and thanked residents, indigenes and stakeholders for their continued support.

The wife of the house owner whose roof was shattered, Mrs. Ekpede Madamedon after conducting newsmen round the rooms, said the house was no longer safe to her and requested that she be relocated to a far away location and her damaged properties replaced, saying that the company has agreed to her request even though her husband, Mr. Mathew did not agree with her position.

Authorities of NIMASA were also around to see for themselves the magnitude of explosion and damages caused, even as it became clear that it was equipment failure with measures already in place to forestall future occurrences.

Though the Koko Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Mr. Hameul , a Superintendent of Police was said to be unavoidably absent, top police sources confirmed the explosion as being without any casualty and advised Koko politicians as well as power seekers to be wary so as not to drag the good name of the community into the mud for selfish reasons.

Chairman of Koko Community Management Authority, KCMA, Engr. David Oniyeburutan said they have put the matter under check so as not to allow people with evil intention to hijack it and charged the management of Ebenco to expedite action on the affected building to assuage agitated nerves.
