CBN describes N2,000 and N5,000 banknotes in circulation as fake

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has described videos and pictures of N2,000 and N5,000 banknotes in circulation as false and fake.

In a terse statement released this evening, Sunday May 31, via its twitter handle, the apex bank enjoined members of the public to disregard the falsehood, saying anyone found in possession of the banknotes should be reported to law enforcement agencies.

The statement reads: "Videos and pictures of purported circulation of N2,000:00 and N5,000:00 banknotes are false and fake. Members of the public are advised to disregard such falsehood and to report anyone found in possession of such banknotes to the law enforcement agencies".
