COVID-19: NCDC is playing games with the lives of Nigerians, Kogi Govt. alleges

The Kogi State Government has accused the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, of playing games with the lives of Nigerians, insisting Kogi State, “remains COVID-19 free”.

The State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwho, who made the accusation today Monday June 8, during a press briefing, said the index case ( Chief Imam and the son) reported by NCDC, “never tested positive”, as claimed by the NCDC.

While frowning “at the NCDC allocating the third case to the State”, Fanwho averred; “The Federal Medical Centre is also a collaborator with the agency, to label the state as having COVID-19 case”.

Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that the Commissioner, assured that the state will continue to work hard to ensure that it is COVID-19 free.

Fanwho, who described the exercise by NCDC as one shrouded in secrecy, insisted that, the “allocation of three COVID-19 cases to the state is unverified”.

"We interacted with the discharged Kabba Imam, he told us that he never tested positive for COVID-19. Up till this moment, the discharged Imam was not allowed to see his test result. The Imam equally expressed shock at his experience in the nine days he was admitted”, he stressed.

According to the Commissioner, “even the Imam son who was claimed to have tested positive was not isolated, even after mingling freely with the father, visitors and officials at the hospital”.

Fanwho explained that till date, NCDC was yet to disclose the identity of the third case (a woman) said to have tested COVID-19 positive from the state.
