Over 50 percent of inmates at Nigeria Correctional Service, Warri, are awaiting trial – DCC EO Etim reveals

The Officer in-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre, Warri, Deputy Controller of Corrections, DCC Etim Effiong O, says more than 50% of the 828 inmates at the centre are awaiting trial, while 228 are Inmates on Death Row, IDR.

 

Fresh Angle International can report that EO Etim, who made the disclosure in Warri, Delta State, Wednesday October 27, during a working visit to the Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr. Michael Tidi, noted: “From my statistics, 95% of the inmates are from Delta State and a great percentage are residents of Warri South Local Government”.

 

While appreciating the assistance of the Dr. Tidi administration of Warri South Local Government Area, to the Custodial Centre in the past and his continuous goodwill as well as support, the DCC stated: “We have earmarked the following programmes for the Custodial Centre; Religious Activities, Education, Recreation and Skills acquisition.

 

“The Custodial Centre is in urgent need of the following: -Beddings (6 spring mattress, blankets, mats & mosquito nets) -Toiletries (Bathing Soap, Washing Soap, Tissue Paper etc) -Drugs (List Attached)”.

 

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, in his response, praised the agenda of DCC Etim, describing it as quite laudable and reassuring.

 

Dr. Tidi, who stated that his administration had always intervened in requisition from the Nigerian Correctional Service, Warri, assured of continuous support within the limit of available resources.

 

Secretary to Warri South Local Government, Mr. Joseph Oribioye, Warri South Council Head of Personnel Management, Dr. (Mrs.) Minnie Igbrude, Chairman of NULGE, Warri South Council, Comrade Raymond Emiko  as well as DCC Etim Okon O, ACC N. Turaki, DSC Olisa N, ASC Idjesa Onome · P, ASC Morka Amaka, IC Abdulahi O and AIC Mosan Omatseye. J., were on ground during the visit.
