IRDC: Controversy brews in Omadino over Oniyesan’s replacement
Late Ambassador Austin Oniyesan

Fresh controversy is brewing in Omadino, Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State, over who will replace the demised Chairman of Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC, Ambassador Austin Oniyesan.

Recall that Amb. Austin Oniyesan, a second-term Chairman of IRDC and one of the representatives of Omadino in IRDC, reportedly passed away Friday May 13 in Lagos and the news sent shock waves across Warri kingdom, particularly, the 23 communities in Warri South, Warri South-West and Warri North Local Government Areas that make up the Chevron Nigeria Limited established IRDC.

A former Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, on Youth Development, Mr. Roland Yomere, was quoted to have said weekend in an online medium (not Fresh Angle International) after the death of Oniyesan that, “Omadino Community is still on a period of mourning the untimely death of their leader, Ambassador Austin Oniyesan and not in a hurry to name a replacement to his former position as Chairman of the Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC”.

But in a swift reaction, a well-known indigene of Omadino and Secretary of OML 150 Communities’ Consultative Forum, Oriteseweyinmi Agbonekuya Emmanuel Aginejuone, stated: “Roland Yomere is not the Spokesperson of Omadino Community and his elder brother, late Godwin Yomere, was the last Spokesperson of Omadino Community. Being a Spokesperson to Omadino Community, is not hereditary”.

Aginejuone, in a statement sent to This Newspaper last night, averred: “Roland Yomere is not the Chief Priest of Omadino Community. He is only a priest to his family juju, the only Chief Priest known to Omadino Community, is Temieno Asokansomi. Roland Yomere is speaking for himself, not Omadino community”.

He added: “While Omadino Community mourn late Austin Oniyesan, let it be known to the general public and Itsekiri Nation in particular, that there is no lacuna in life, it is the person that occupied the office that died and not the office, Roland Yomere ought to have known that”.
