Fallout of Ogunu, Ugbuwangue Clash: Tidi issues fresh warnig against collection of ‘deve’
Dr. Michael Tidi

The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi has issued fresh warning against collection of ‘deve’ in Warri, saying anyone caught in the act will be arrested and prosecuted, to serve as deterrent to others.

The renewed warning came on the heels of the recent bloody clash between youths of  Ogunu and Ugbuwangue communities over perceived right to collect ‘deve’ despite a law recently signed by the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, abrogating such unauthorized collection in any part of the state.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that the Warri South Council Chief Security Officer stressed that the anti-deve law will be strictly enforced by his administration in the local government area, just as he described the clash between youths of the age-long neighbouring communities as unfortunate.

While noting that law enforcement agents were swiftly drafted to the communities to curb the clash as well as maintain law and order, Dr. Tidi commended elders of Ugbuwangue and Ogunu Communities for their role in quelling the crisis.

He directed the Warri South Council Environmental Taskforce to continue demolition of all illegal structures around the council area and admonished residents of Warri to pay their tax at the designated banks approved by his administration to avoid double taxation.
