Bello imposing multiple taxation on us, Kogi Cashew Farmers petition FG

Kogi State  Chapter of National  Cashew Association of Nigeria, NCAN, has petitioned the Federal Government over alleged multiple taxation being imposed on its members and buyers by the Yahaya Bello led Kogi State Government, Fresh Angle International can authoritatively report.

This much was disclosed Monday April 29 by the association during a press briefing held at Ayingba, Kogi State.

Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that the cashew farmers explained that the alleged imposition by the Kogi State Government agencies have made cashew farming and business in the state “the most expensive when compared to other states in the country”.

The body also issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Kogi State Government to reverse all the taxes or face “the next line of action”.

Chairman of Kogi State Chapter of NCAN, Elder Sule Ochala, who addressed the press, noted that some of the agencies are not even known to members of the association, claiming the agencies’ officials deploy methods of threat, harassment and intimidation against cashew farmers and buyers in the state.

He listed levies such as N30,000 grading fee,  N10,000 haulage fee, N6,000 for state environmental, N5,000 youth levy as well as NAAPD, which is not known to the industry as some of the obnoxious multiple taxation.

According to him, the multiple levies have scaled up the price of a Jute bag in Kogi State for cashew farmers to N400,000 as against N180,000 in the open market.
