NFIU: None of our DLG, Treasurer, is in EFCC custody over N630m– Kogi Government

The Kogi State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, says no Director of Local Government or Treasurer from the State is in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC as a result of N630million purportedly given to Governor Yahaya Bello, following the implementation of NFIU regulation.

Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that the position of the State Government was contained in statement signed by Public Relations Officer of Kogi State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Akpata Jordan.

The statement released Wednesday July 17, enjoined members of the public to disregard reports by some online media that all the Kogi State Local Government Directors and their Treasurers are in EFCC custody for allegedly giving N630 million local government councils’ fund to Governor Bello.

While describing the reports as, “another evil machination of mischief makers who are bent on smearing the good reputation built by the current administration in Kogi State”, the state government pointed out that there was never a meeting called by the governor to meet with DLGs and their Treasurers, as alleged.

The statement stressed, "it is only gross ignorance that would make the mischief makers think that a Director of Local Government can single handedly withdraw N30million in cash and hand over to the State governor. We therefore urged the public to disregard the online publication as it is fake, baseless and a figment of the imagination of satanic minds, bent on smearing the good works of Governor Yahaya Bello".

In a related development, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Kogi State Chapter, has described the reported arrest of some  DLGs and Treasurer in the State as a figment of lies, misleading and concocted to tarnish the image of the present administration of Governor Yahaya Bello.

The Kogi State Chairman of ALGON Alhaji Taufiq Isa while confirming this to Our Kogi State Correspondent in a telephone interview, said, "no political appointee was either invited or arrested by any anti graft agencies over any allegations. No petition whatsoever, was written or submitted to EFCC, ICPC as speculated. It was concocted stories by the haters of the present administration".
