Days to Kogi Guber: Don't tear our state apart, Traditional Ruler begs politicians
The Ohinoyi of Ebira, Dr. Ado Ibrahim addressing members of CPI at his Palace in Okene

Amid fears of possible violence in the governorship poll and senatorial re-run election slated for this Saturday November 16, a traditional ruler, The Ohinoyi of Ebira land, Dr. Ado Ibrahim, has begged politicians not to turn Kogi State into a theatre of violence, because of the polls, urging them to eschew politics of bitterness and hatred, so as to ensure development of the state.

Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that the paramount ruler made the call weekend at Okene, when members of Challenged Parenthood Initiative, CPI, paid him a courtesy visit.

The visit was prior to GOTV/Voter Education and Stop Violence Against Women in Politics, VAWIP town hall meeting organized by CPI for people of Kogi East and Central Senatorial Districts.

The town hall meeting was facilitated with a view to sensitizing voters and party officials on the need to promote peace and shun every form of violence, before, during and after the elections.

Dr. Ibrahim opined that politicians in the country lacks righteousness, "which is the hallmark for national development", insisting that Kogi State will remain one indivisible entity after the election.

He admonished women to come out and vote, stressing that women have added value to the political process of the country.

Earlier in her remarks, the Executive Director, Challenge Parenthood Initiative, Eunice Agbogun, observed that women over the years, have been consistently challenged by increased high level of violence that have characterized the nation's election.

Agbogun further observed that, there have been prevalence of campaign based violence by political parties, which discourages women from participating in electioneering process.

She added that, there was also low level of arrest and prosecution of perpetrators of violent crime during elections.

While tasking all stakeholders to sensitize the community for effective participation in the forth-coming elections, mobilize the people for a peaceful process, Agbogun pointed out that, the true status of an election can be gauged by the number of women who turned out at the polling units.
