Indigenous workers of Greenmac Energy Limited in Koko, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, have shut-down operations of the company, over perceived slavery working condition, Fresh Angle International can exclusively report.

The shutdown of the company’s depot which began yesterday Tuesday November 12 and continued to today, Wednesday November 13, was occasioned by Greenmac Energy Limited’s alleged failure to honour the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, it entered into with Koko Human Resources Development Council, KHRDC and Koko Community Management Authority, KCMA, as it affects the welfare of nine Koko indigenes working in the company.

One of the protesting community workers, who spoke exclusively to Your Soaring International Tabloid, on condition of anonymity, accused the management of Greenmac Energy of undue delay in the payment of the monthly workers’ salaries, saying the often get their salaries between 14th and 21st of the following month.

According to the unnamed worker, the management of Greenmac Energy have been deducting supposed monthly pension contribution from their salaries since April this year (2019) but there has been no record of the monies paid to any pension fund administrator, “as at the time of this protest”.

Issues raised by the protesting community workers against Greenmac Energy as contained in the MoU include:

·         Refusal of Greenmac Energy to give workers milk after loading petrol.

·         Alleged failure by the company to adhere to Nigerian Content Act and

·         Refusal to meet welfare package, like two scholarships to indigenes and zero skills’ acquisition training programmes.

Fresh Angle International scooped from the MoU, which was signed by the Chairman and Secretary of KHRDC, Comrade Omajuwa Eyito and Comrade Oti Emmanuel, respectively, that other issues requiring the attention of Greenmac Energy Management, are implementation of the following:

·         End of year allowance to staff (13th month).

·         Over-time of at least one thousand per hour.

·         Annual leave allowance, 10% of basic and

·         Medical package/ Protection from health hazard.
