The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Kogi State Chapter, says it has concluded plan to mobilise one thousand volunteer youths in the state to compliment government's efforts in tackling the flash flood that has ravaged the State, Fresh Angle International can report.
According to a release by the Kogi State NYCN Chairman, Mr. Oladele Nihi, the essence is to raise volunteers through the Local Government chapters of the council to enable them work with National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Kogi State Ministry of Environment in the task of mitigating the effect of the flood.
Nihi added that the volunteers would assist in carrying out grassroots sensitization and sanitation, clear blocked drains to allow free flow of water, create alternative routes for water flow, clear bushes where necessary and do other tasks that may be deemed fit by the ministry.
"The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kogi State chapter wish to use this avenue to sympathize with the people of the state, most especially those who were affected by the recent flash flooding. We also wish to commend NEMA, SEMA and the state Ministry of Environment for their tireless efforts in contending with this giant monster that we face at this time”, the statement noted.
Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that the flash flooding was witnessed Thursday September 7 in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital and areas such as Ajaokuta, Koto Karfe, Omala, Igalamela-Odolu, Kabba/Bunu, Ajaokuta, Ibaji, Bassa and Isanlu.
