Delta intensifies battle against illiteracy


The Delta State Government in conjunction with Warri South Local Government Council, is to intensify the battle against illiteracy in Warri South Local Government Area through improved advocacy and sensitization.                       

This much was disclosed by Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr. Michael Tidi in a statement made available to newsmen in Warri weekend.                   

Dr. Tidi noted that in line with the resolve to drastically reduce illiteracy level in Warri South Local Government Area, a one -day talk-shop with the theme, "Need for Local Government to partner with Agency for Adult & Non-Formal Education in the area of advocacy and sensitization" will hold Wednesday September 5 at the conference hall of the Main Secretariat of Warri South Local Government Council by 11:00 am.                   

The statement added that artisans and petty traders as well as commercial bus,cab and tricycle operators, who have no formal education, hence can't read and write, should attend the sensitization programme.                     

The Warri South Local Government Chairman, stressed that his administration was poised to strengthen the council's adult literacy centres at Igbudu, Mereogun, Ogiame, Ogunu,Ighogbadu and Mowoe Primary Schools as well as those at Word of Life Bible Church and Our Redeemer in Okere- Urhobo.                       

Permanent Secretary, Delta State Agency for Adult & Non-Formal Education, Asaba, Dr. (Mrs.) C. Ajuyah is expected to deliver keynote talk alongside other senior officials of the agency during the one- day programme.
