Workers Reject Percentage Payment of Salary

The Joint Action Union, JAC, of Local Government workers in Kogi State have rejected the 25 and 30 percent salary paid to local government workers by the State government, Our Kogi State Correspondent reports.

The union which consists of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Medical and health workers union of Nigeria, MHWUN, Nigeria union of Pensioners, NUP and the Non Academic Staff Union, NASU, made this known at the end of their state administrative council meeting held in Lokoja Saturday June 1.

While expressing their displeasure on the way Local government workers are being treated by the government, the union averred that the State government failed to meet the demands of local government workers despite collecting April and May allocations from the Federal Government.

They equally observed that local government pensioners received between 35 to 50 percent salary saying “workers in the local government were expecting something better from what they have been collecting from the past.”

The union urged the government to do the needful as workers at the grassroots have been facing untold hardship for several months.

The Union also described as worrisome the percentage payment of workers salary putting into cognizance the economic hardship of the country.

It also noted that some local government does not know their fate as far as the payment of March salary is concern.
