Heritage Energy moves to execute development projects in host communities

Operator of the Oil Mining Lease, OML30, Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited, has concluded plans to execute development projects worth hundreds of Millions of Naira in the 112 host communities in OML30.

It will be recalled that Heritage had on May 7, 2019 released the sum of N1.2 billion as the 2018 GMoU funds, which was paid into the GMoU account to kick-start the execution of human capital and infrastructural development projects across the host communities.

A source in the company confirmed that Heritage has successfully inaugurated the 12 Clusters Community Management Committees (CMCs), which have the oversight function and mandate to manage the GMoU funds, including the execution of community development projects.

To effectively and efficiently implement the GMoU, which was signed by Heritage and Host Communities in October 2018, it was learnt that Heritage will be organizing a three-day leadership and capacity building training for members of the OML 30 Community Development Board (CDB) and Community Management Committees (CMCs).

" The CDB and the CMCs are both democratically-elected structures saddled with the responsibility of efficient and effective GMoU funds management/accountability as well as sustained community development. The training is expected to build local capacity for leadership, community needs assessments, development planning, budgeting, project implementation, monitoring & evaluation as well as public accountability". GMoU implementation will also focus on entrepreneurship development, enhanced employment creation through more active participation in agricultural production/processing as well as in the oil & gas sector resulting in enhanced incomes and local economic growth".

The source further disclosed that shortly after the leadership and capacity building training for members of CDB and CMCs, Heritage will be having Town Hall meetings with the Urhobo, Isoko and Trans Forcados Pipeline (TFP) communities aimed at drilling down the content of the GMoU at the grassroots level and to further strengthen relationships with host communities.

It was gathered that immediately after the training, Heritage will be disbursing the 2018 GMoU funds to the various 12 Clusters Community Management Committees to commence development projects implementation across the 112 host communities.
