Two- Story building under construction collapses in Warri, 24-year old escapes death

A two-story building under construction at Marine Quarters in Warri, Delta State at about 1pm Friday June 14, collapsed with no casualty and one 24-year Omoniyi Owoputi who was sleeping in an apartment close by, escaped by the whiskers.

Owner of the building identified as Mr. Okafor Benson, switched off his mobile line when authorities of Warri South Local Government Council tried to reach him on getting to the site of the collapsed building.

Sources at the area, told newsmen that no worker was on the site when the sub-standard structure, which reportedly vibrated at nights collapsed and the property owner, Mr. Okafor, was said to have personally supervised the poor structure without listening to advice on the inadequate/sub-standard  materials used for the project.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr. Michael Tidi, who was represented by his Vice, Chief Divine Iniovosa and Head of Personnel Management of Warri South Council, Mr. Douglas Akambe, gave occupants of a nearby sub-standard two-story structure build by the same Mr. Okafor less than one week to vacate the building, demanding that Mr. Okafor should appear before the council authorities latest Monday June 17 or face arrest.
