Peace Consolidation: Group plans cultural fiesta in Warri

In what can be described as one of the strategies to consolidate the existing peace in Warri, commercial nerve centre of Delta State, a Non Governmental Organization, Warri Rebirth Initiative has unveiled plans to stage a cultural fiesta in Warri.

 The cultural showpiece which is targeted at strengthening the peaceful co-existence between the Itsekiris, Urhobos, Ijaws, Igbos, Yoruba and other ethnic nationalities living in Warri is scheduled to hold Monday December 23, while a novelty football match will take place December 28.

The Chairman of Warri Rebirth Initiative, Mr. Kess Agbosa who made the disclosure at a media chat in Warri, stated that prominent Deltans such as Prof. G.G. Dorah, Prof. G. Yomere, renowned economist, Mr. Bismack Rewane, Dr. Akpor Mudiaga Odje, Dr. Festus Okubor and the Transition Committee Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr. Augustine Uroye are expected to grace the event as resource persons.

According to Mr. Agbosa, an old Warri girl and first female Vice Chancellor of University of Benin, Prof. Grace Alele Williams will chair the event, while Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan will be the chief host.

Our Correspondent reports that while the cultural fiesta will hold at King George IV Centenary Hall in Warri South Council Sub Secretariat, the novelty football match featuring ‘Old Warri Boys’ versus ‘Old Warri Girls’ will take place at Warri City Stadium and will be spiced up with lecture presentation by resource persons.

The weeklong programme will be rounded off December 30 with a Solemn Assembly being put together in partnership with Wife of Delta State First Lady, Mrs. Roli Nere Uduaghan.
