Recruitment of 1,050 Graduate Trainees: Your promises were plot to exclude Itsekiris, NAIG tackles NNPC

The National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG, has hit hard on the management of two subsidiaries of NNPC: Warri Refining and Petro-Chemical Company, WRPC and Nigerian Gas Company, NGC, saying the earlier promises by the management of both companies that Itsekiri host communities’ graduates will be given slots in the NNPC recruitment, “were meant to divert our attention from the well-orchestrated sinister plot of the NNPC to exclude Itsekiri graduates from the recruitment exercise”.

In a statement made available to Fresh Angle International this morning, Monday February 17, NAIG noted: “We wish to put it on record that it was because of this perceived oppression and marginalization of the Itsekiri Nation by the Federal Government owned Corporation, that we alongside other Niger Delta groups, embarked on a peaceful protest to NNPC subsidiaries in Warri on May 7, 2019”.

The statement signed by the President/CEO, National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG, Comrade Collins Edema, condemned, “in its strongest term, the exclusion of Itsekiri graduates from the recently employed Graduate Trainee candidates by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC”.

While insisting that both the management of WRPC and NGC assured them in the presence of former Delta State Commissioner for Oil & Gas, Hon. Freeman Fregene that Itsekiri host communities’ graduates would be given slots in the NNPC recruitment, NAIG averred: “The Itsekiri Nation aside producing over 28% of Nigeria's Oil & Gas, has at least 10 communities that are host to NNPC and her subsidiaries. Information from reliable source inside NNPC indicates that no Itsekiri graduate has been penciled down for recruitment in the yet to be released final list for experience hire”.

“While we await the final list from NNPC, we wish to state categorically that we will move to the next phase of this struggle if the Itsekiri Nation don’t get her fair share of slot in the NNPC recruitment exercise”, the apex Itsekiri graduates’ body warned.

The management of NNPC in a statement released weekend, explained that the issuance of provisional offers of employment to 1,050 Graduate Trainee candidates, have commenced, noting that: “In delivering this important assignment, we have ensure that the outcome reflected National Spread and that all statutory requirements are complied with. The recruitment exercise in NNPC will be a continuous process and in this regard, the Experienced Hired, EH, component will be addressed in due course.”
