The Delta State Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Council has condemned in the strongest of terms the wanton killing of Deltans in Uwheru, Abraka and other enclaves of the state

The group which comprise Presidents of all the ethnic youths bodies in the state said "the recent attack at Uwheru community by Fulani marauders has become one too many. These Fulani herders kill and maim our people without restraint. They continue to destroy farms and properties of our people rendering hundreds homeless in their own land.

We have looked up to the security agencies, constitutionally empowered to protect our people but our trust is proving to be in vain as some unscrupulous security agents continue to aid and albelt this act of terrorism by the Fulani herders against our people. They carry on unrestrained as though they have strict orders to exterminate our people.

"It must be noted however, that no ethnic group has the monopoly of bloodletting and violence as we shall no longer fold our arms and watch our people slaughtered aimlessly. Since the government has refused to protect us, we shall mobilize our people to defend themselves by all means possible. We shall lead them to rise against these evils and protect our land. Our farms are equally important to us and shall no longer condone its destruction by these evil Fulani herders".

The Inspector General of police and heads of other security outfits must be awakened to their responsibilities and make the perpetrators face the full weight of the law within the shortest possible time if they are to be taken seriously. Anything short of that would call for retaliation against the monstrous herders across the entire State.

The group also resolved to pay a condolence visit to the affected communities where a final warning to the marauding herdsmen and their sponsors shall be made to stay off all their farm lands and forests within 7 days and upon the expiration of the ultimatum, all units of our special task force set up in this regard shall be activated to fish out the perpetrators of this crime and their partners in crime and chase them out of our farm lands and forests.

Youth leaders have also planned a protest to the State House of Assembly to occupy it until a commitment is extracted from our state legislators on the urgent need to pass the anti grazing bill in Delta State.

Our hearts are with those grieving families and friends who have lost their loved ones and properties to the attack of these vicious and rampaging Fulani herdsmen and urge everyone to go about their normal businesses and not give in to the fears the enemies intend to create in our land".
