How Navy, gunmen invaded Ugborodo in renewed onslaught
One of the casualties of the fresh Ugborodo violence

The crisis in Ugborodo Community, Warri South-West local government in Delta State took a new dimension Saturday January 4, 2014 when some mercenaries backed by Naval Officers allegedly attached to Chevron facilities in Escravos attempted to enter the community but was resisted by youths and women who stripped nude.

Fresh Angle gathered that the situation became violent the following day when some of the mercenaries reportedly gained access to the community through another route, opened fire on some of the community indigenes, killing one Oritseneye Afejuku, injuring some others with bullet wounds and destroyed the home of the community spiritual head, Mr. Benson Dube Omadeli who is presently remanded in Warri Prison.

It was gathered that the community youths who were on guard launched a counter offensive and there was heavy gun-fire which lasted for the most part of Sunday afternoon (January 5, 2014) leaving both sides with severe casualties.

Investigations reveal that the protracted Ugborodo leadership crisis which might make the federal government relocate the hugely anticipated EPZ (gas) project if not immediately nipped in the bud is taking a new twist, as some of the gladiators are already giving political colouration to the crisis.

Our Checks reveal that the Chief Thomas Ereyetomi faction are accusing the Hon. David Tonwe leadership of playing the All Progressives Congress, APC agenda, an allegation Hon. David Tonwe and majority of the Ugborodo people are viewing as strategy of the thomas ereyitomi faction to woo the support of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Meanwhile Fresh Angle has learnt that those that suffered casualty from the Thomas Ereyetomi faction in the violence that ensued yesterday (January 5, 2014) between both factions have been rushed to a private clinic in Warri.
