Ugborodo laments impact of oil vessels on community shores

The people of Ugborodo community in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, have raised alarm over the impact of oil vessels plying the waterways in the area on the shorelines of the community.

Locals from the community, also warned oil companies particularly Nest Oil not to take their peaceful disposition for granted.

Former National Youth Chairman of Ugborodo Community, Ofe Nene in a statement today, expressed fears that the people might resort to individual solutions to protect their land.

He said: "We had an agreement with Nest Oil who agreed to be paying the community a certain developmental levy for every vessel that passes the water way, but for over a year now, we have not gotten anything from them while similar payments are being made to other communities along the waterways.

"Owing to the speed and size of the vessel, it affects and causes damages to the shorelines of the community.

"To avoid a clash with the operators of the vessel, they should do the needful so that we can protect our shoreline and as well mitigate the impact of the vessels on our communities because as a community leader, I am sensing trouble ahead because of this and we won't be liable if anything of such occurs."
