Transportation fares in Delta State, has shot up by 100 % as commercial bus and tricycle operators defy the extended lockdown directive of the state government and began full operation along major routes.
Our Correspondents who visited Sapele, Ughelli and Jeddo towns Saturday April 18, report that commercial vehicles were fully on major roads going about their normal business, while markets and shops were opened for business amid the presence of pockets of security men on major roads.
Some of the commercial drivers and traders,who confided in this newspaper, revealed that they usually give security details on the road some money, before being allowed to go through the check points.
In Warri, Warri South Local Government Area, where there have been reasonable level of compliance of the lockdown order, commercial bus and tricycle operators, entered the road this morning, Monday April 20 on the ground that Monday is one of the market days declared by the state government and increased their fares by 100%.
A bus ride from Ugbuwangue to Main Market Warri, which usually costs 50 naira, was 100 naira Monday April 20.
