Reminiscent of the days when the Escravos Gas To Liquid Project, EGTL was under construction, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, All Progressives Congress, APC and community leaders in Warri South - West Local Government Area, buried their differences and joined hands with the Delta State Government in the purchase of large number of foodstuffs to mitigate the effect of the lockdown occasioned by the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Hon. Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties in Delta State, Mr. Omamofe Joseph Pirah, who addressed news hunters at Delta Boatyard in Warri, Monday April 20, before the large number of foodstuffs left for the 20 DSIEC wards in Warri South - West Local Government Area, disclosed that the" who is who" in Warri South - West political landscape, from Delta State Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, to other appointed and elective class, including councillors in the local government area, contributed financially to enable the Warri South - West Food Bank Committee, purchase more stimulus package to compliment the palliatives brought by the Delta State Government.
Mr. Pirah, who is also a member of the Delta State Food Bank Committee as well as the Warri South - West Local Government Food Bank Committee, named the member representing Warri South - West Constituency in Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, the Tompolo Foundation, Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC, Egbema Gbaramatu Communities' Development Foundation as well as Chief Ayirimi Emami, Mr. George Timinimi and Engr. Tuoyo Omatsuli of the All Progressives Congress, as some prominent institutions and individuals that pulled their resources together, to ensure that the vulnerable in Warri South - West do not suffer the effect of the lockdown order geared towards containing the spread of COVID - 19 pandemic.
The commissioner had told Fresh Angle International, during an exclusive chat that the decision to share the foodstuffs with the DSIEC ward structure as against the INEC ward structure deployed in some councils, was to ensure the stimulus package get to all communities in Warri South - West Local Government Area.
He mentioned beneficiaries of the palliatives to include senior citizens of the local government area above 70 years old, widows, the physically challenged, artisans and unemployed.
Chairman of Warri South - West Local Government Area and Chairman of the local government's food bank committee, Hon. Taiye Duke Tuoyo, who corroborated Mr. Pirah' s explanation on the method deployed in sharing the stimulus package, assured that he will visit each community in the local government area by Tuesday April 21, to ensure that the foodstuffs are judiciously distributed to the target households .
The member representing Warri South - West Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, assured that the unity deployed in the fight against COVID - 19 across communities in the local government area, will be sustained even after ending the COVID - 19 plague.
While stressing that Coronavirus is real, the lawmaker emphasised the need for his constituents to maintain social distancing and practice other COVID - 19 preventive measures.
Fresh Angle International can report that the foodstuffs distributed include hundreds of yam tubers, bags of rice, beans and garri in hundreds, cartons of pasta, maggi , noodles and vegetable oil,bags of onions and gallons of palm oil.
