The mother of a seven-week-old baby is due in court on Monday charged with his murder and child neglect
The mother of a seven-week-old baby who died from severe head injuries has been charged with his murder and child neglect.
Katarzyna Maria Gacek, 24, is accused of killing her son Thomas Gacek at her home in Hillside Avenue, Oldham, Greater Manchester.
Two men, David Mokrzanowski, 26, also of Hillside Avenue in Oldham, and Darren James Butterfield, 35, of Ross Avenue, Chadderton, have both been charged with child neglect.
All three are due to appear before Oldham Magistrates Court on Monday.
Police were called to the Royal Oldham Hospital on January 26 following reports a baby boy had been admitted with severe head injuries.
The baby was transferred to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital where he died.
A post-mortem showed he had died as a result of serious head injuries which were not thought to be accidental.
In a statement, Thomas's family said: "As a family, we are all truly devastated and deeply shocked by the tragedy we have all suffered and the loss of our little baby boy.
"We are a private family and, as such, we would ask the media allow us time to grieve in peace and come to terms with this tragic situation we have all found ourselves in.
"We are aware that there are numerous stories in circulation at present. However, we would ask that only official police statements given by Greater Manchester Police are taken as factually correct."
