Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, Delta State governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, the member representing Warri Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Daniel Reyenieju, lawmakers of Itsekiri extraction in Delta State House of Assembly as well as renowned Itsekiri activist, Chief (Mrs.) Rita Lori- Ogbebor are among dignitaries expected to grace a public lecture being put together by Itsekiri graduates under the auspices of National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG.
Briefing the press in Warri Wednesday February 12, 2014, National President of NAIG, Comrade Alero Tenumah, explained that one of the reasons the public lecture is being put together is to re-orientate Itsekiris, particularly the youths as well as bridge the gap between Itsekiri youths and the Itsekiri leadership.
According to her, Itsekiri academics such as Prof. Itse Sagay, Prof. Tony Mene Afejuku of University of Benin, Dr. Lucky Akaruese , Dr. J.O Ireyefoju are among prominent Itsekiri sons that will deliver lecture on germane issues like ‘political challenges of the Itsekiri ethnic nationality in Nigeria and socio-cultural challenges of the Itsekiri ethnic nationality.
The NAIG President while noting that the public lecture is titled, “The Itsekiri Ethnic Nationality, Challenges of a Minority in a Multi Ethnic Nigeria”, declared that logistics have been put in place to ensure that Itsekiri sons and daughters across the country attend the lecture billed for March1, 2014 by 10: 00am at Wellington Hotels, Effurun near Warri.
The Vice President of NAIG, Oritsetimeyin Edema who also spoke in the same vein with other executive members of the body, noted that guests have been invited from all sections of Itsekiri nation to douse any form of political tension and suspicion.
