The sacked Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, has openly declared his intention to contest the Delta State governorship in the 2015 general elections.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Orubebe made the declaration in Asaba Saturday February 15 during a civic reception in his honour by a political pressure group, Delta People's Forum, DPF.
The former Minister and ex- aide to Chief James Onanefe Ibori when the latter was governor of Delta State claimed that he resigned as a minister in order to return to his home state to serve the people better.
Orubebe, whosedeclaration is not coming as a surprise to political watchers in Delta State, said he decided to heed the call of the DPF to return to Delta and work for the good of the people. “As I was driving round the streets of Asaba, I saw some posters with different inscriptions, including the one welcoming me as the next governor of the state. I want to let you know that as your humble servant, I will be there for you, come 2015.”
He paid tribute to President Goodluck Jonathan and the late President Umaru Yar'Adua for appointing him at different times as minister, just as he called on President Goodluck Jonathan to run for a second term.
