Delta State Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Hon. Omamofe Joseph Pirah, has tasked the member representing Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Thomas Ereyitomi, to initiate legislation and take practical steps towards immediate construction of Ode - Ugborodo shore protection project, to stop further washing away of Ode - Ugborodo in Warri South - West Local Government Area of Delta State.
Hon. Pirah, who made the call in an exclusive telephone chat with Fresh Angle International this morning, Friday June 12, on the backdrop of reported one year stewardship of Chief Thomas Ereyitomi, insisted that the federal lawmaker should drag key members of the National Assembly to Ugborodo, to see the devastation crude oil exploration by Chevron Nigeria Limited and Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC have caused Ugborodo communities.
The Delta State Commissioner, who midwifed the construction of various housing units in Itsekiri oil and gas/impacted communities as Chairman of Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC, after the unfortunate Warri crisis, declared that Chief Ereyitomi should go beyond rhetorics and set practical machinery in motion for salvaging Ugborodo and other Itsekiri coastal communities from further ocean surge and environmental degradation.
He stated that as Deputy Chairman, House Committee on NDDC in the House of Representatives, Chief Ereyitomi, should use his position to make NDDC more responsive by completing abandoned projects in Itsekiri communities and award new people - driven projects.
