Tension heightens in Warri as Monarch insists on handpicking community exco against constitutional provision, directives by Council Boss, security operatives
Gabriel Mene - Ejegi

Tension is heightening in Oteghele Community, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, following alleged insistence of The Ovie of Agbarah Warri, Orifi Ememoh, to personally handpick a new executive to pilot the affairs of the community in purported defiance of the community’s constitution as well as directives by Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi and the Police Area Commander in Warri, ACP Mohammed Muktar Garba.

Fresh Angle International understands that the intervention of Warri South Chairman, was sequel to a petition addressed to him by Chief Robinson Ariyo Esq. on behalf of Gabriel Mene – Ejegi, Prince Raymond Emiko, Daniel Olukuyon, Leanin Iwaka and Ovakporaye Okpeh.

The petitioners who said they are indigenes of the Warri South coastal community, stated that the issue took a new twist when The Ovie of Agbarah Warri, insisted that his decision to handpick and constitute a new executive for the community was final and the outgoing chairman, Peter Okpeh, allegedly boasted that the Itsekiris that are indigenes of the community can not dictate to them that are Urhobos.

According to the petitioners, a meeting convened by Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr. Tidi, with official of DSS in attendance, allegedly came out with a resolution that election should be conducted and Mr. Peter Ovie Okpeh, should not constitute himself a stumbling block to the process.

The Police Area Commander in Warri, ACP Mohammed Garba, also purportedly insisted that election be held in the community in line with the council chairman’s directive and further instructed that the outgoing chairman, Peter Okpeh, write undertaking to that effect.

It was gathered that a case of threat to lives have already been communicated to the Assistant Inspector General of Police in Charge of Zone 5, Benin as a result of the growing tension in the community.

Oteghele, a community whose indigenes are mostly farmers, is close to Omadino and Obodo Communities, in Warri South Local Government Area.
